Bishops Green Farm

We were planning a 2 week break in June but a satellite launch has jumped in the way (darn those satellites but they DO pay the bills) so 3 days camping is all we could fit in. Decided to go back to the 1st place we ever camped, Bishops Green Farm near Newbury. Only about half an hour’s drive from home.
Always takes longer than I expect to pack. We were ready to go by lunchtime Saturday but grabbed a bite to eat first. (KFC! Zinger and fillet burgers. Mmmm.)
Got to Bishops Green around 3pm only to be disappointed to discover we weren’t in the lovely green field like before but in what we called the “caravan bit”!
Turns out the field isn’t always open. Either 28 days a year only or for caravan club events only or something.
The pitch we’d got was by a hedge (main road on other side) and on very hard grassy ground. We struggled for 20 minutes trying to get a dog tether in the ground before sitting down, taking a deep breath, and seriously considering, “do we stay or do we go?”
The campsite lady was lovely and, heck we were there so we decided to stick it out. Found a patch of ground near the hedge that took a dog tether and put another one in with the help of two tent pegs. The ground is rock solid more than 4 inches down. Pitched tent fine.*
* Discovered when packing away, 2 tent pegs bent.
